Changing lanes
Your learner should only change lanes when they need to, as staying in the same lane is usually a safe option when they drive.
But sometimes they’ll need to change lanes:
- In the right lane to turn right.
- Moving back into the left lane.
- Moving out of a lane ending or merging with another lane.
- Avoiding parked cars.
- Avoiding roadworks or obstructions.
- Obeying road signs.
- Driving around a crash.
What road markings mean
Road markings can tell your learner to slow down or provide warning of what road features are ahead.
Road markings can be white or yellow.
It’s a good idea they review the different types they’ll see on the road before they drive.
